NECTARINES. Yellow Flesh.

                Nectarines basically are peaches without the fuzz. Some people will eat peaches with the skin on, although some do not like the fuzz, so  they prefer a nectarine, on the other hand some prefer the taste of a  nectarine. I have therefor written pages on both types of fruit to give you not only the different types but to indicate the differing flavours. You may not be aware, that originally all nectarines and peaches were white fleshed but with hybridizing the flesh changed to the orange/golden colour we know today.

                 If you are thinking of growing a plant from a nectarine stone, you should know that they sometimes produce a peach plant, whilst a peach stone, quite often produces a nectarine.

                   DESERT DAWN. Nectarine.

                 Desert Dawn is one of the many trees available as a semi-dwarf,( which grows to between 8 and 12 ft), or a standard tree (growing from 15 to 30 ft). Which produces pink fragrant flowers in spring, developing into fruit having a skin of solid red and flesh that is juicy yellow with a rich flavour, ripening mid-late May.

                 Desert Dawn a self fruitful tree, prefers a sand to mostly sand soil.

                   FANTASIA. Nectarine.

                 Fantasia produces large fruit, if  harvested early have a firm ripe tangy taste, but if Fantasia is harvested late they have a  rich taste that is juicidly sweet. Moderate fertility and good drainage is an essential, combined with pruning  and thinning for continuous good cropping.

                 The Fantasia fruit is a bright red in colour, over a yellow  undertone, and with the flesh having a high "dribble" quality.

                    HONEYKIST. Nectarine.

                  One of the earliest yellow nectarines to ripen, Honeykist is sub-acid and therefor has a high sugar content and a very rich nectarine flavour. Honeykist, having been tasted, was described as having a full bodied flavour with a candy like sweetness.

                      NECTARED. Nectarine.

                    Nectared like most of the varieties can be obtained as a standard or dwarf  size and can also be trained as an espalier or cordon shapes. Nectared do not require a pollinator other than bees, and produce a yellow skin with a bold red flush. The ripening time for Nectared is from early August to late Augst/early September.

                       PANAMINT. Nectarine.

                     Panamint Produces a medium to large sized fruit, with a rich red skin and golden flesh, early to mid July. Trees grow to around 15ft high. Panamint trees will produce fruit when they are around 3-4 years old but will heavy crop between 8-12years old

                      The Panamint nectarine has an excellent flavour, but the tree does need heavy pruning, and like most nectarine trees panamint requires a well drained soil and fertiliser to keep the heavy cropping.

                           PINEAPPLE. Nectarine.

                        Pineapple derives it's name from the delicious melting flesh that has that little hint of pineapple, producing a large green yellow fruit, with a crimson red flush, the pineapple nectarine grows best in the South (as opposed to the colder North. Grown under glass then this will excel.

                            SUNGLO. Nectarine.

                          Sunglo, Yet another High quality nectarine, producing a  gorgeous large golden yellow skinned fruit with red over, sunglo is said to  be juicidly good, ripening in mid season.

                           When sinking your teeth into any of the above ripe  nectarines always make sure you have something to wipe the dribbles,  ( I haven't found anyone yet! who can eat a nectarine without loosing  some of the juice).                              FRED
